A motorist was today fighting for his life after his car left the road and careered into a lampost and a fence.
The man in his 30s suffered severe head injuries in the crash on the Small Heath Bypass near Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, at around 1.20pm on Sunday.
The Air Ambulance was scrambled and the bypass temporarily closed so it could land in the central reservation to take the patient to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for specialist treatment.
Claire Thomas, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: “The driver of the car sustained a serious head injury in the collision. Crews worked to stabilise his condition whilst working with the fire service to carefully extricate him from the car.”
