Redruth 19 Moseley 25

Victory for Moseley, their seventh this season, was fully deserved, on their first visit to Redruth Recreation Ground which, over the years, has been made famous with its "Hell Fire Corner", at the town end of the ground.

Kicking off, Moseley had to play towards the famous corner, in front of a big crowd, with the grandstand being almost full.

Redruth made an impressive start, to the delight of their partisan fans, with a try in the tenth minute at the scoreboard end.

The Reds player to go over the try-line was hooker Mark Harper, with his fifth try this season, after help from his forward colleagues, plus skipper Mark Richards. Mark Scrivener's conversion attempt failed.

A try for the visitors by centre Chris Holder, following a run by winger Carl Colvin, put Moseley on the scoreboard but the conversion was missed.

Midway through the half Moseley took the lead, however, with a try grounded by allaction man Dean Bick, the hooker's seventh try this season, which Thomas converted, thus giving Moseley the lead.

Fly-half Ollie Thomas then kicked a penalty after the

home team's forwards transgressed.

However, the resurgent Reds replied with six points in as many minutes, No 10 Scrivener kicking both penalties, to leave Moseley leading 15-13 at half time.

Redruth's Richards was replaced by Nathan Pascoe, with Marek Churcher moving up to scrum-half, while Gavin Donald took over at fullback and quickly caught the eye.

Moseley built up an attack to score their third try, centre Paul Cox being the player to go over the line, and the conversion by Thomas gave the visitors a nine-point lead.

It took the Reds ten minutes to reply with a penalty, kicked by Donald, before James Rodwell, the Moseley centre, was injured.

The home side, with Churcher working hard at the

base of the scrum, had several good passages which were halted when Moseley conceded penalty kicks. In the space of five minutes, Donald was successful with both kicks, leaving Moseley 22-19 ahead.

For the decisive phase of the match, Moseley brought on Tom Skelding for Dave Hallman while Paul Coles came on at prop for Ben Buxton. Thomas kicked a penalty to give Moseley a six-point lead and now Redruth needed to score a try and convert it to take the lead. This, however, was beyond them, despite the support of the vociferous spectators in the grandstand.
