Fans of the iconic Morris Minor car enjoyed a rally in the glorious sunshine in Birmingham on Sunday.

More than 500 people flocked to Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens to admire a fleet of 66 Morris Minor vehicles.

Visitors could snap up a host of Morris Minor regalia for sale, as well as stocking up on car parts, at the event organised by the Birmingham Branch of the Mirror Minor Club.

Judging took place in eight categories including saloon, convertible, travellers and commercial. The award for best in rally went to a Morris Minor commercial van.

Roy Copsey, chairman of the Birmingham Morris Minor branch, said: “The event was very successful. The April sunshine meant the gardens were looking their very best. The cars are still an attraction after all these years because of their ease of maintenance, no road tax and they are a classic of their day as oppose to a vintage or a veteran.”

The organisers hoped to raise £300 and more throughout the year for the gardens which is currently being restored as near as possible to the period 1680 - 1740 by the Castle Bromwich Hall and Gardens Trust.

Sue Brain, administrator from the trust, said: “It was the first time the club have held their event here. The baroque gardens provided a lovely backdrop to the cars and showed them off to their best.”
