Coventry City striker Andy Morrell is seeking further talks with manager-Micky Adams before committing himself to the club.
The 30-year-old Morrell, who is one of ten outofcontract players the club want to keep, has been offered a new one-year deal by the Sky Blues on reduced terms.
But the former Wrexham front-runner wants assurances he will be used as a striker by the Championship side before agreeing to stay after having to occupy a berth on the wing under Adams.
Morrell said: "I have been playing out of position most of the season and I have had a chat with the manager and expressed my concerns.
"He has told me he wants to have a look at me up- front during preseason because he has never seen me play there.
"That's a starting point in the negotiations and hopefully something can be sorted out.
"I would rather be playing out of position than not at all, but recently I haven't even been playing."
