A moped rider had died in an crash on the A38 in Staffordshire.

The accident happened on the northbound carriageway just north of the Streethay junction, between Lichfield and Alrewas, at 5.25am on Tuesday.

Police closed off the carriageway causing major rush hour traffic delays towards Derby.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a young man lying near to a moped.

“They immediately started advanced life support but sadly it quickly became apparent that there was nothing that could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“It was not clear what had happened.”

Staffordshire Police have asked anyone with any information about the incident to call them on 101.
