When Richard Money was at his peak as a player, briefly occupying a left-back position with Liverpool in 1981, Nottingham Forest were the European Cup holders.

It seems inconceivable that, a generation on, Forest have slipped into the third tier of English football and he was the manager of the Walsall team who defeated them at the weekend.

However, Walsall's 1-0 victory has put Money's team comfortably into the top half of the table and on the verge of the top six. A cause for euphoria at Banks's Stadium? Not quite. According to Money, Walsall are punching above their weight.

"We have absolutely no right to be anywhere near the top of the table," Money said. "But we have a group of young players developing and working their socks off and believing in one another.

"I thought it was a tremendous performance. We defended really well in the first half and throughout the game and people should remember Forest are a team full of quality players."

Former Jersey Shore Boca goalkeeper Chris Konopka has been given a a three week trial at the Banks's Stadium.

Konopka, who started his career with the Kansas City Wizards in the United States' Major League Soccer, turned down a new contract in order to seek a deal in English football.
