The body of a 40-year-old Shropshire mother who went missing after a night out has been recovered from a river.

Mandy Franks disappeared in the early hours of Sunday, October 5, after visiting bars in the centre of Shrewsbury.

West Mercia Police said her body was pulled from the River Severn near Bridgnorth, Shropshire, by fire crews on Monday morning.

Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended after reports of a body floating downstream in the Apley area of Shropshire.

A post mortem examination failed to establish a cause of death. Detectives are treating the death as unexplained and are preparing a report for the coroner, a spokeswoman said.

Detective Sergeant Chris Hughes of Shrewsbury CID, said police are keen to hear from anyone who could help them establish exactly what happened to Miss Franks before her death.

Police have previously released CCTV footage of the mother-of-one in Montgomery's Tower pub in Lower Claremont Bank, late on Saturday October 4.

DS Hughes said: "The last confirmed sighting of her was at about 12.05am on the Sunday, when she walked across the road towards the car park.

"We are still trying to establish exactly what happened after that and where she went before she ended up in the river."
Anyone with information is urged to call West Mercia Constabulary on 08457 444888.
