Dear Editor, I basically agree with Christopher Morley’s review (of Bruckener’s Third), though the Clarinet Concerto, albeit brilliantly played, was not my cup of tea.
I will certainly not argue with Morley’s transparent enthusiasm for Andris Nelsons. I simply pray we can hold on to him.
However, I have to take issue with Morley mentioning “a packed auditorium”. I don’t know where he sat, but as a hard-up pensioner I was up “in the Gods” and there were very many empty seats near me. One could, in fact, pick and choose. Would that it were not so.
I am sure, however, this will not be the case for Lohengrin next year.
As for Tristan in 2012, we will be packed to the rafters.
