Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby restated his total support for the campaign to secure a financial lifeline for Jaguar Land Rover.

The Conservative leader used city council question time to reinforce his total commitment to the campaign and demand the Government answer the car maker’s call for finance.

He said: “Jaguar Land Rover is vital to the economy of the West Midlands and the entire country. The difficulties they are in are not their fault.

“It is important the Government immediately provides the necessary level of financial loans to this company, which I point out Tata will repay.”

He said that the banking system, which is being supported by the Government, must ‘get its act together’ and get finance moving.

“I am supportive of the Birmingham Post and Birmingham Mail campaign for Jaguar Land Rover and will do what I can to help.”

He added that he was writing to the Prime Minister and raising the issue during meetings with West Midlands Minister Ian Austin.
