Walsall playermanager Paul Merson is faced with the problem of how to rejig his midfield for Saturday's match at Blackpool.
Merson's No 2 Simon Osborn is suspended after being cautioned for a fifth time this season in last Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Bradford City.
With Mark Kinsella still nursing the sprained ankle that has kept him out for the past month, Merson is without both of his vastlyexperienced midfield generals.
Osborn's absence does at least allow him to rest a badly bruised toe, which has forced him to play with painkilling injections for the last few games. But Merson, who says he made a mistake by not selecting himself against Bradford, does have the option of giving himself a recall.
The Saddlers have scored only once without him in the starting line-up in a threegame winless run that has seen their outside League One play-off hopes disappear. n Walsall reserves twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Hartlepool United in a Pontins League Premier Division match at Bescot Stadium.
Hartlepool substitute David Manson put the visitors ahead a minute after appearing, just before half time, and Bruce Wheeler equalised with a volley following good play by Ishmel Demontagnac ten minutes into the second half.
Manson restored Hartlepool's lead on 62 minutes and big striker Kyle Perry, who has been on loan to AFC Telford, brought the Saddlers level again ten minutes from time following a Demontagnac free kick, before missing a chance to hit the winner.
The Saddlers included young central defender Gavin Hurran, on trial after being released by Nottingham Forest.
