Paul Merson's first game in a Tamworth shirt proved to be one to forget.
Despite featuring for 90 minutes, the former Walsall player-manager had few chances to shine as the Lambs fell to a 2-1 home defeat to promotion-chasing Halifax Town.
The Lambs' plan to give Merson the ball and allow him to weave his magic was scuppered as they struggled for any momentum, especially after conceding a goal inside two minutes.
Merson said: "I like to win and when we don't win, it's not enjoyable.
"It was good to get my first game under my belt but we got off to a terrible start and it was all uphill from then on."
The Lambs defence was flat-footed when Lewis Killeen forced the ball into the net from a Matt Doughty corner to open the scoring, and then substitute Chris Senior bagged the second in the 69th minute, bundling in a rebound when goalkeeper Sean Bowles parried a Ryan Sudgen shot.
Tamworth's only reply came in the 89th minute, but it was a goal to savour as substitute Carl Heggs rifled home a stunning 30-yard volley. ..SUPL:
