Friends and admirers of the late Sir Richard Knowles turned out in force to attend a memorial concert in his honour on Saturday.
Lady Knowles invited the Canoldir Male Voice Choir to sing at the event which took place at St Michael’s All Angels Church, in Bartley Green. Proceeds of about £2,000 from ticket sales went to St Mary’s Hospice.
The Birmingham-based Canoldir Male Voice Choir, which was founded in 1966, features many Welsh singers and the choir has a strong allegiance with Wales.
Sir Richard, who was widely credited with leading Birmingham out of its industrial past to become a successful, modern global city, died in February last year.
The Labour leader of Birmingham City Council from 1984 to 1993 drove forward plans to set up the International Convention Centre and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and the CBSO were also established during the period of his leadership.
Sir Richard died aged 90 after succumbing to bladder cancer.
