Pioneer Kay Gould has been made an MBE for services to children and families.

The former manager of Adderley Children’s Centre, St Saviours Road, Saltley, was pivotal in developing a range of health, social and educational support and programmes for parents at the thriving unit.

Adderley’s nursery caters for 125 pre-schoolchildren and a baby unit for up to 12 babies.

The centre, which employs 40 staff and costs about £1 million a year to run, has a remit to cover 950 addresses, runs an adult learning centre, child support unit, sensory room, a kitchen that can be used as a training centre for cooking and a toddler group.
