A masked gang attacked a man in Walsall with a machete-style weapon on Monday, police have said.

The 49-year-old man was attacked by three men wearing balaclavas on the Wolverhampton Road at around 11.35am, West Midlands Police said.

Police said the man was attacked with what they believed to be a machete.

The victim was later treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries to his head and body.

The force are now appealing for any witnesses to the attack to come forward.

DS Barbara Dale from Force CID said: "It is believed he was attacked by three men wearing balaclavas, who left the scene in a Vauxhall Corsa. Enquiries are ongoing, but nothing is believed to have been stolen."

She added: "A team of detectives from Force CID are investigating the incident, conducting enquiries in the local area to establish what took place. Forensic scene investigators also attended the scene to recover evidence."
