FC Wil 1900 0  Aston Villa 6

Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood staked an early claim to a starting role with two goals in a comfortable pre-season friendly win over Swiss side FC Wil 1900.

Harewood converted an near-post cross from John Carew to give Villa an eighth-minute lead and again combined with his strike partner for the third goal on the half-hour.

In between, Carew had slotted home the second after combining Ashley Young.

Subsitute Nathan Delfouneso – one of five half-time changes – marked his debut with a goal with his first touch on 47 minutes.

Fellow sub Shaun Maloney fired home a free-kick three minutes later to make it 5-0 before, Wayne Routledge cut in from the right and slotted home a low drive to complete the scoring.

Manager Martin O’Neill also took the chance to give debuts to four young players as he changed the team around in the second period.
