Birmingham city centre was brought to a standstill after a young man was stabbed during Wednesday night’s rush hour.

Police sealed off Upper Bull Street shortly after a man was found with stab injuries at 5.10pm.

The victim, who is either in his late teens or early 20s, was taken to hospital and was immediately rushed into surgery. There was no detail about his condition.

It is believed the stabbing happened at a bus shelter. The street has several bus stops and is one of the busiest public transport locations in the city centre.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Steelhouse Lane on 0845 113 5000.
