A man was fighting for his life in hospital after being shot repeatedly at point-blank range on one of Birmingham's busiest streets yesterday.
The 34-year-old Birmingham man, who has not been named, was standing outside Bella Pizza, on Broad Street, when the gunman walked up to him and fired numerous shots at about 3.20am.
Last night police were questioning three men, all aged in their 20s and from London, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The gunman made off in a car, which sped towards Five Ways, and a vehicle was later recovered and is being examined by forensic experts.
A firearm was also recovered from the scene.
Police cordoned off Broad Street between Bishopsgate Street and Five Ways to traffic leaving the city for more than 11 hours to allow officers to carry out a fingertip search of the area.
