A man was in hospital after he was shot in the head in south Birmingham, police have said.

Officers were called to an address in Simcox Gardens, South Woodgate, following reports of a firearm being discharged. A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A 39-year-old man sustained a head wound as a result of the shooting, he is currently in hospital. He remains in a stable condition."

Two people, a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were arrested in connection with the incident, which took place at around 1.40am on Tuesday.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding whilst the woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, police said.
