A man has been seriously injured after the ceiling of a building he was working in collapsed in Birmingham city centre.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a building being renovated on Broad Street, near Cineworld, at 3.15pm on Wednesday.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "It is believed the man was working in the building carrying out renovation work when the ceiling partially collapsed onto him.
“The man’s colleagues had removed the rubble which had landed on top of him before crews arrived.
“The 49-year-old had sustained multiple fractures to his lower right leg. Crews quickly assessed his condition and administered morphine to the man who was in a lot of pain before his leg was carefully immobilised with a splint. "
The injured man was taken to the specialist trauma unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further treatment.
