A man has died after suffering severe injuries on a railway track in Cannock.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man was found to have suffered injuries "incompatible with life" when an ambulance crew arrived at the scene near Hawks Green Lane at around 7.35pm on Wednesday night.
An ambulance service spokesman said: "When crews arrived they found a train that had stopped near by to the spot where the man's body was found.
"The train driver was not injured but was understandably shaken by the incident. The passengers' wellbeing was also checked but no-one required any assistance."
