A man has died after being shot in a Tipton street, police said today. A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, which happened just before 9.30pm last night in Tudor Street.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said officers were called following reports of a man being shot. The victim was taken to hospital where he later died.

The spokeswoman said the man arrested remained in custody helping police with their inquiry.  Tudor Street was closed today while officers investigated.

The spokeswoman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal shooting which occurred in the Tipton area yesterday."

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.  A service spokesman said: "The crews found a man who was very seriously injured.

"They attempted to stabilise his condition before taking him on blue lights to Russells Hall Hospital where medics were on stand-by to continue treatment.

"Unfortunately, despite all of the efforts of ambulance and hospital staff, it was not possible to save the man and he died later."
