The death of an elderly man who was struck by a train in Warwick is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The victim, who is thought to have been aged 70, was killed when he was hit by a London-to-Birmingham passenger service passing through Warwick station at about 11.55am on Friday.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the deceased had yet to be formally identified, but was thought to have lived in the local area.

The train involved in the incident, which is believed have been travelling at about 70mph, was the 10.20am service from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street.

West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene. A spokesman said: “Unfortunately, from the outset, it was apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

A woman who had witnessed the incident was treated at the scene for shock.
