A West Bromwich man has appeared in court charged with killing a teenage pedestrian who died in hospital after a car crashed into a shop.

Mahamed Nabaz Salam, of Green Street, who is accused of causing the death of Joshua McAuley by dangerous driving, was not required to enter a plea when he appeared before Warley Magistrates' Court in Oldbury.

Joshua, of Church Road, Smethwick, suffered severe leg injuries in nearby Cape Hill on May 15 this year.

The 15-year-old Jehovah's Witness was taken to Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital and is believed to have required a blood transfusion, which was declined.

Salam also faces charges of failing to report an accident and failing to stop at the scene.

Magistrates granted the 28-year-old conditional bail and ordered him to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on October 25.
