A man has appeared before magistrates charged with the attempted murder of a 14-year-old girl who was repeatedly stabbed near the gates of her school near Stourbridge.

Samuel Gayzer-Tomlinson, who is accused of attacking Chloe West outside a school in the West Midlands was not required to enter pleas during an 10-minute hearing at Dudley Magistrates' Court.

The 18-year-old A-level student, of Turls Hill Road, Sedgley, was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on June 28.

Gayzer-Tomlinson appeared in the glass-panelled dock wearing dark trousers, a white shirt and with his right hand and forearm covered by bandages.

The defendant, who spoke only to confirm his personal details and to say that he understood the charges, is accused of attempting to kill Chloe outside Ridgewood High School, in Wollaston, on April 1.

He is also charged with wounding a boy at the scene with intent to prevent his apprehension, possession of an offensive weapon, and driving a Volkswagen Golf other than in accordance with a licence and without insurance.

Defence solicitor Harbinder Gahir opted not to make a bail application on behalf of Gayzer-Tomlinson, who failed to appear in court on Monday after undergoing minor surgery.

Chloe, who suffered a total of 11 stab wounds, including injuries to her upper body and head, was discharged from Birmingham Children's Hospital on Saturday.

In a statement issued at the weekend, her parents thanked those who helped their daughter at the scene in Park Road West and medical staff who treated her after she was airlifted to hospital.
