A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body travelled 155 miles from Worcestershire and was discovered at a waste management site in London.

The body of the Birmingham man, who has not been named, is believed to have arrived at a company in south east London on a lorry which came from a depot in Redditch.

Police have arrested a man in connection with their investigation and he is currently in custody assisting with enquiries. A police spokeswoman said: "It is believed the body arrived at the venue through the recycling system, on a lorry which originated from the Crossgates depot in Redditch."

Police were called to the Crayford site on Tuesday afternoon. Detective Chief Inspector Dave Morgan of West Mercia Constabulary, who is leading the investigation, said: "The body has been identified as that of a man from the Birmingham area. Next of kin have been informed. However he is not being named at this stage."

Officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries in Redditch in connection with this investigation and forensics teams have also been in the area.
