A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found by police called to investigate a smashed window in Shropshire.

The suspect, in his early 50s, was detained by West Mercia Police at the house where the man's body was found in the Leegomery area of Telford.

A police spokesman said officers were alerted at 4.15am on Tuesday by a concerned member of the public who reported that a window had been broken at the property on Halifax Drive.

Detective Inspector Nick Haggitt, who is leading the police inquiry, said officers immediately attended the address and discovered the body of a man in his late 50s.

Mr Haggitt said: "The investigation is at an early stage and at this time we do not know how this man died.

"We are currently carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the local area and community support officers will also be on hand to provide reassurance to the community.

"A man in his early 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and he is currently in custody."
