Michelin-starred restaurateur Pat McDonald has closed his flagship Birmingham restaurant, Paris, in the city's Mailbox.

The critically acclaimed restaurant, which opened in winter 2003, has closed so that Mr McDonald can focus on his other business interests.

A new restaurant, run by the operators of well-known London eaterie, Le Caprice, is to open at the site next month.

A spokeswoman for the Mailbox said: "The Mailbox has already been approached by the operators of a well-known restaurant chain and this has given Pat the chance to move on to other projects.

"The new operators are Signature Restaurants plc, who operate London restaurants Le Caprice and Daphnes, and they will be refitting the premises later this month."
