A section of the M6 has been closed following a four vehicle pile up north of Birmingham.

At least one person is thought to have been injured in the crash involving one car and three heavy goods vehicle on the northbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 14 of the motorway at Stafford.

It is not yet known what caused the pile-up which happened at around 1.25pm today (Tuesday).

The entire stretch between the two junctions was still closed off at 3pm while firefighters work to cut one trapped person free from one of the vehicles.

It is not yet known when the road will be reopened but motorists are being warned that there will be severe delays in the area.
