A man whose body was set on fire by the side of the M45 near Dunchurch, Rugby, has been identified.

Warwickshire Police said on Thursday the man's identity will not be made public until his family was informed.

A murder investigation was launched after the body was dumped and set alight on an embankment at the motorway on December 30.  Police made a number of UK-wide appeals and released scanned images and an artist's impression of the man to try to identify him.

A post-mortem examination showed the man had substantial head injuries and was dead before he was set on fire.

Detectives in Warwickshire are working on the murder investigation with officers from London's Metropolitan Police.

Police thanked the public for their help and appealed for anyone with any information to contact them on 01926 415 789 or email incidentroom@warwickshire.police.uk.
