A man has been arrested in connection with the kidnap of a lorry driver who was gagged, bound and abducted and his load of Lego stolen before being abandoned in Staffordshire.

Police said the driver was asleep in the cabin of his lorry, parked in a layby at services on the A14 westbound at Kettering, Northamptonshire, when he was woken at about 4am on February 4.

Police said he was "gagged, tied up and forcibly removed" from the cabin and put in another vehicle.

He was abandoned unharmed in Staffordshire and his lorry was later found in Merseyside, damaged by fire.

Police said a "significant quantity" of Lego and beauty products were stolen from the lorry.

Northamptonshire Police said a 31-year-old man from Merseyside has been arrested in connection with the robbery and abduction and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A spokeswoman said: "Officers from Northamptonshire Police have recovered the stolen property at an address in Merseyside."
