Dear Editor, Some years ago the works at Longbridge employed directly and indirectly thousands of people, required material to be brought in by road and by rail and made a product – cars – that were shipped out and sold.
Part of the site is being re-developed, partly for houses but mostly for shopping, and a planning application, S/00967/09/FUL, has been made. The most striking aspect of the planning application is the massive road expansion.
It is for individuals to express their support or opposition, but can we point out that altering Bristol Road South and widening Longbridge Lane to a dual carriageway will be an expensive exercise resulting in an unattractive ‘gateway’ hostile to cyclists and those on foot on their way to Longbridge Station.
