The smash-hit series Life On Mars has been nominated for two TV Baftas.

John Simm is up for best actor for his role as time-travelling cop Sam Tyler - but there is no nomination for his co-star, Philip Glenister (Gene Hunt).

The BBC1 series, which was watched by nearly eight million viewers as it came to a conclusion last night, is also up for best drama series.

Longford, the Channel 4 drama about the prison reformer’s battle to release Myra Hindley from jail, is up for four awards, grabbing the largest number of nominations this year.

Jim Broadbent and Andy Serkis have both been shortlisted for best actor for their portrayals of Lord Longford and Moors Murderer Ian Brady respectively.

Samantha Morton is up for best actress for her role as Myra Hindley and Longford is also up for best single drama in the TV equivalent of the Oscars.
