Despite the best efforts of Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott and Michael Powell, Otago just failed to qualify for the final of the State Championship in New Zealand.
Otago succumbed to a four-wicket defeat against Auckland on the final day in the league part of the competition, finishing third in the final table, and only behind Central Districts on a technicality.
Trott and Powell's contributions were certainly valued, however. Otago were bottom of the Championship the previous year, while they also enjoyed their best one-day season for a decade.
Otago declared on 70 for nine on the final day of their game against Auckland, with Kerry Walmsley claiming six for 24. Auckland then knocked off the 240 required for victory for the loss of six wickets.
Powell finished his spell in New Zealand with a first-class average of 22.5, while Trott's was 39.28.
