A killer has been jailed for life for the murder of his lover - the second time he was convicted in nine years for the same offence.

A jury at Stafford Crown Court took three and a half hours at the end of a sixday hearing to convict David Evans (54) at a retrial ordered last year by the Court of Appeal in London.

Evans, of Wantage, Woodside, Telford, Shropshire, and formerly of Hospital Street, Bridgnorth, served just over eight years of a life sentence passed at his first trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in October 1997.

He denied the murder of his lover Jeanette Evans, aged 40, who he strangled with rope.
