Walsall’s woeful season continued as they suffered a 61-run defeat at the hands of title favourites Knowle & Dorridge.

But the Gorway outfit didn’t go down without a fight, having the home side all out for just 136.

Former Derbyshire pair Andy Gray (5-25) and Mo Sheikh (5-34) were the dangermen, Richard Johnson (50) leading the way for K&D.

But Walsall’s hopes of causing an upset were dented when opener batsman Paul Baker broke a finger out in the field and his loss proved costly.

Fellow opener Richard Rawlinson scored a spirited 31 but there was little support from the lower order, Sheikh (18) one of only two others to reach double figures as the visitors were dismissed for 75.

That defeat leaves Walsall teetering on the edge of the drop zone, just six points ahead of Leamington who pulled off a last ball win at home to Moseley.

Usman Shabbir’s (106 no) helped the hosts to 220-9 only for the Warwickshire side to stumble over the line when Lee Hopkins (32 no) hit the winning run.

Bromsgrove’s 96-run defeat at home to Himley saw them slip to the foot of the table, Saurabh Sehgal’s bowling (5-13) helping to send them back to the pavilion with just 62 on the board.

Nitesh Patel (50) had earlier helped Himley to 158-7 from their 55 overs.

Wolverhampton maintained their outside title hopes with a nail-biting last over victory over visitors Barnt Green. Teenager Jack Biddulph (32no) and Chris Russell (24no) steered them home with four balls to spare.

Kenilworth Wardens eased to a seven-wicket victory at home to Kidderminster Victoria while Walmley suffered a losing draw at Shrewsbury.
