A jury was sworn in for the trial of a man accused of killing a Warwickshire hunt supporter who died after he was hit by a gyrocopter's rotor blade.

Bryan Griffiths, 55, is charged with the manslaughter of Hunt member Trevor Morse on March 9 last year.

The defendant, of Wiltshire Close, Bedworth, north Warwickshire, was previously accused of unlawfully killing Mr Morse in the incident at Long Marston airfield, near Stratford-upon-Avon.

At Birmingham Crown Court he pleaded not guilty to a new charge of manslaughter by gross negligence, in that he killed Mr Morse - to whom he had a duty of care - by driving towards him at speed a gyrocopter with an unguarded revolving rear propeller at a time when it was unsafe to do so.

Mr Morse, a committee member of the hunt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident after suffering severe head injuries.

A jury of nine men and three women was sworn in and the case was adjourned until 10.30am on Tuesday at Birmingham Crown Court.
