Dear Editor, I was saddened to hear about the demise of the Bucklemaker, not only because of the loss of an excellent restaurant but also because Nick is typical of the larger-than-life characters who help make the Jewellery Quarter the unique place that we all love.
However, amongst the gloom, I would emphasise that the area still has over 30 restaurants and bars ranging from the Urban Art Pub Co, which run the excellent Red Lion and Lord Clifden, to restaurants like The Vaults and Vertu which are housed in quirky and historic buildings. So if you want an eating experience with a difference and are sick of shopping malls and franchised eateries, then it’s worth making the effort to visit Birmingham’s culinary gem, less than 15 minutes’ walk from the City Centre.
We are working with the Jewellery Quarter Marketing Initiative to have a stand at Taste of Birmingham next week to publicise ‘Taste of the Jewellery Quarter’; if you are going to this excellent event, pay us a visit and find out more!
