Dear Editor, I read with interest the letter from Nigel Clarke about entertainment and noise issues in the Jewellery Quarter.

Like Nigel we welcome quality restaurants and bars in the area but obviously account needs to be taken of residents views.

However I would suggest that anybody with plans to move into the Quarter sensibly checks to see whether any existing premises in the proximity already have planning permission for entertainment/ leisure uses. I do think that it is reasonable for city centre residents to expect a level of evening noise and activity but I also accept that there is a difference between levels of noise and whether this occurs before or after midnight.

However I do take issue over the comments about lack of consultation. Our Regeneration Partnership have a monthly Land and Property Steering Group which involves a representative from the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum where we consider and comment on all planning applications received for the Quarter - I would suggest that Nigel needs to link in with them by looking at our website www.jewelleryquarter.net.
