Birmingham pop diva Jamelia ordered a £30,000 sports car - just hours after passing her driving test first time.

The 24-year-old millionaire singer, who grew up in Handsworth, escaped to Norwich for a five-day intensive driving course, and after passing her test celebrated by putting the order in for a convertible Audi A4.

Her instructor, Richard Minkler, aged 43, said the sexy star sang to him while she practised her three-point turns and clutch control.

He said: "She was one of the best pupils I've ever taught. She paid a lot of attention and really did apply herself.

"On the morning of the test she told me she was going to try really hard. She was over the moon when she passed and phoned her mum straight away to tell her.

"I hadn't actually heard any of her stuff, so she sang quite a few songs to me."

Mr Minkler said he might even have influenced his pupil's future musical direction because he played Beach Boys tracks and 80s electro pop while she learned to drive.

"Jamelia seemed to like the music I played and when I asked her if there would be any Beach Boystype stuff on her next album she said 'we'll see'," he added.

Car dealer Lee Machin, from Audi Birmingham in Digbeth, said: "The Audi A4 is a four-seater and has style, performance and desirability. The road noise is very low because it is well-insulated.

"People who buy cars like this want you to think they're free spirits who love feeling the wind in their hair. They may want to show off, but feel that they can do that without a loud rattle to announce their arrival."

The singer, whose real name is Jamelia Davis, will have to fork out at least £6,500 a year in insurance as a new driver on her flashy motor.

The convertible Audi A4 glides from 0 to 60mph in 9.9 seconds, consumes diesel and has a top speed of 105mph.
