Dear Editor, I enjoy a joke, but for the Institute of Directors to make Birmingham Corporation’s leader, councillor Mike Whitby, a Fellow is stretching most peoples’ sense of humour to breaking point.

It is a poorly-kept secret at the Council House that Coun Whitby has difficulty making any decision. If the far right IoD really wanted to make anyone at Brum’s Council House a Fellow, it ought to be the chief executive. He has always run the place, which is why the Holy City is so poorly managed.

Readers who want to network with real bosses should try the Chartered Management Institute.
