A new guide to internet-related jargon was launched by the Post Office today.

It follows research which found a lack of understanding of terms such as browser, HTML and VoIP. The confusion was more prevalent amongst people over the age of 55, the Post Office found.

Johnny Ball, aged 69, is backing the new jargon buster which is available in 14,000 Post Office branches and via its website.

"Even though people are baffled by internet terminology, it doesn’t mean they can’t use the internet," he said.

The Post Office says an estimated six million potential internet users are put off logging on due to poor knowledge and understanding. Its findings are based on a survey of 1,207 UK adults carried out by market researchers Experian in September.
