An insurance broker that has been operating in Birmingham for a quarter of a century has made its first move into the city centre.

Global insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh, which employs 81 people in the city, has completed a move from Tricorn House, on Hagley Road, to the Colmore Plaza development.

Mike Halldearn, head of Marsh’s Birmingham office, told the Birmingham Post Business Daily the move was part of a focus on connecting better with businesses in the city.

He said it came after 25 years of being based out at Tricorn House.

He said: “Marsh decided it was the first time for us to move into the city centre to ensure that the global brand of Marsh is connected to the business community.

“We have moved the entire Marsh workforce, which is about 80 people.”

Marsh has agreed a 10-year lease for 11,500 sq ft of Grade A office space on the building’s eleventh floor.

Mr Halldearn said the firm planned to expand while focusing on its specialisms, and hoped that the manufacturing sector would drive growth in the region.

“Marsh has made this great investment, and in terms of growth aspirations we are always looking for talented people,” he said.

He added: “Birmingham is a thriving and well-respected financial services centre. Marsh is excited to be joining great local, national and international firms in the business community at a time when we are continuing to invest in our business, people and clients across the Midlands.”

US-owned Marsh operates across the globe with 53,000 employees worldwide and annual revenue exceeding £9 billion.
