A man has been described as a "real-life Scrooge" by his neighbours after launching a one-man campaign to "make Christmas shorter".

Edward Addis, aged 56, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, is so fed up with tacky decorations, festive songs and the "commercial overkill" of Christmas that he has created a website, which aims to keep the event more "low key".

The Campaign For A Shorter Christmas website sets out a manifesto for change - which includes a call for an end to "excessively tasteless displays" outside people's homes.

Like-minded people can sign an online petition to back the campaign, while shops guilty of launching their Christmas push well before December are named and pictured in The Gallery of Shame.

Protesters can join the fight by printing off ready-made fliers to hand out to shopkeepers deemed guilty of breaking the campaign's rules.
