Birmingham is to get an outdoor ice rink - for the Christmas period only.
The city council has announced plans to build a temporary rink in Centenary Square, which will be open to the public from the end of November to the middle of January. The council is working in partnership with T-Mobile and Ice Event and Promotions, which will operate the 1,200 square metre rink.
A T-Mobile spokesman said the rink would feature spectacular lighting effects in the late afternoon and early evening. There will also be music, DJs and a caf>-bar.
Coun John Alden (Con Harborne), cabinet member for leisure, said: "This really is the icing on Birmingham's Christmas cake.
"We are serving up our biggest and best Christmas ever and it has only been made possible through public and private sector partners working with sponsors. I believe it will bring people to the city from across the region as it offers one of the best Christmas experiences anywhere."
T-Mobile sponsorship manager Toby Hester said: "This is going to bring some fun to Birmingham and will be a great place to hang out." Tickets, which include the cost of skate hire, will be £7 for adults, £5 for children and £22 for a family.
