Dear Sir,

There is no greater issue than Climate Change in today’s world.

Many decisions which impact on the West Midlands, including Birmingham, are made by the European Union, Members of the European Parliament play their part by making legislation regarding Climate Change and Sustainability.

That is why the West Midlands Campaign Against Climate Change (WMCaCC), believes that is essential that prior to the European Elections on June 4th local people have the opportunity to hear and question the views and commitment of candidates taking part in that election.

To that end WMCaCC and the Birmingham Trades Council have organised a Hustings in Birmingham’s Council House on Wednesday 13th May. It will concentrate on Climate Change and Sustainability.

So far the Green Party and UKIP have accepted the invitation to the Hustings, but no Conservative, Liberal Democrat or New Labour candidate has yet responded.

Is this because the major parties feel unable to explain, defend or justify party policy and their voting record regarding Climate Change and Green issues in general?

We hope this is not the case but the only way we and the West Midlands Electorate will be convinced otherwise is if they do have the courage to participate in the hustings.
