Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct an eight-year-old boy and drag him into Birmingham woodland.

The boy was on his bike walking his dog in Babbs Mill Recreation Ground, Fordbridge Road, Chelmsley Wood, at 8.30pm on Monday when a man in his 50s attempted to carry him into a nearby wood. The boy ran away and grabbed onto a tree where he was helped by three teenagers and a jogger.

The offender was white, thin, short and scruffy. He had grey hair, scratches on his face and arms and smelt strongly of alcohol. He wore a white shirt with blue checks and black trousers. Detective Sergeant Heather McCamley, from West Midlands, said: "I would ask the the jogger and the teenagers to contact us because they would help our investigation."

Anyone with information to contact them on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
