Dear Editor, I have the honour and the privilege of writing the roll of honour for the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own) 1939-1945(1946-1947).

The first ever written memorial dedicated to the 165 members and the four attached personnel of the Regiment who sadly never came back.

Amongst their number is one Trooper, Robert William Simpson, 321056, 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own),Royal Armoured Corps, who was born on January, 5, 1920, in Middlesbrough but who lived in Balsall Heath and Sparkbrook, in Birmingham.

He died on November, 23, 1941, at the age of 21 in Sidi Rezegh, North Africa.

Tpr Simpson was the son of: Mr and Mrs Gilbert and Isabel (Nee: Heslop) Simpson, of Sparkbrook; previously of: 162 Clifton Road, Balsall Heath. He was the brother of: Hilda (b: 1917) Edith (b: 1919) Doris (b: 1921) Isabel (b: 1923) and Gilbert (b: 1924). And he is remembered with Honour at; ‘Knightsbridge War Cemetery’ Libya, grave: 16.D.3 (joint grave with: Tpr James Brentwood Howells).

I am trying to trace relatives and descendants of Robert (and anyone else who knew Robert and his family) for information which will be included in his entry within the roll of honour and to offer them the opportunity to have their own dedications also included.

I am also looking for any known war/church memorial on which Robert is commemorated within the Birmingham area.

I have checked and confirmed that Robert is missing from the Birmingham hall of memory/ roll of honour (I have begun the process for him to be included).
