Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to bolster their defensive ranks after Hungarian club Ferencvaros confirmed that Gabor Gyepes will agree to a half-year loan deal at Molineux.

The Hungarian international has failed to travel to Minsk for Ferencvaros' Uefa Cup qualifying tie, a game that the financially unstable club need to win after losing the first leg 2-0.

Gyepes has turned his attentions to Wolves, despite interest from Anderlecht and Olympiakos, and has flown into England to wrap up a deal that would see the defender join Joleon Lescott, Jody Craddock and the injured Mark Clyde at the heart of the Wolves' defence for the next five months. Gyepes is expected to return to Molinuex today to finalise the deal.

One man who won't be coming to the Black Country is Derby's Inigo Idiakez after Glenn Hoddle abandoned his pursuit of the Spaniard.

Wolves have seen three offers rejected by the Rams for their player-ofthe-year and, after Derby boss Phil Brown reiterated his desire to keep Idiakez following talks last week, Hoddle has decided to turn his attentions elsewhere.

"I think we've got to cast our minds to different people now and turn to page two," admitted Hoddle.

"A deal for Inigo is out of our hands. There's a few people we're trying to get in which at the moment don't look as though they'll be happening but we've just got to soldier on."

Derby County chief executive Jeremy Keith is to seek talks with the Coventry City board after the Sky Blues prematurely announced assistant manager Adrian Heath had moved to Pride Park.

Keith confirmed that Brown wants Heath as his number two but said the Rams had been surprised by Coventry's announcement that the deal had already gone through.

Keith said: "I think it's fair to say Phil would like Adrian as his assistant and Adrian has tendered his resignation at Coventry.

"But we were surprised at Coventry's announcement which was made without consultation so I think it's time our board had a conversation with their board about this situation."

Heath had watched from the stands as the Rams lost 1-0 to Notts County at Meadow Lane and Brown said: " If there's announcement to be made it'll come from an official or from my own lips."
