Plans to half the number of firefighters at a Midland brigade will cost lives according to a campaigner.
Mark France has launched a campaign to fight proposals by Hereford and Worcester Fire Service to slash the team at Bromsgrove fire station from 28 to 14 a bid to cut costs.
“There is evidence that emergency services in north Worcestershire are frequently over stretched,” he said.
“And to lose 14 trained fire and rescue workers will have a negative impact on public safety.
“Lives will be lost and this prospect is intolerable.”
Bromsgrove resident Mr France has launched a petition, backed by the Bromsgrove Green Party, calling for the town’s councillors to push Fire Brigade Union representatives to explain what impact the cuts will have.
A Facebook group launched last week in support of the Bromsgrove firefighters has attracted more than 600 members.
