Nearly 200 Birminghambound passengers were involved in a safety scare yesterday when their Helios Airways flight was forced to land due to a technical fault.

A problem with the deicing system on the Boeing 737-800 was spotted during take-off and the jet had to return to Larnaca Airport in Cyprus yesterday morning.

The 189 passengers and seven crew had been flying for 40 minutes.

Helios Airways commercial manager Vicky Xitas said: "The passengers are safe and they were never in danger."
